Der Spiegel is the leading magazine in Germany. This story is encouraging and breathtaking. The Chancellor of Germany said this Thursday:
During a speech given during the awarding of the prestigious Charlemagne Prize for furthering European unity in Aachen on Thursday, Chancellor Angela Merkel used strong words to address the current euro zone crisis. If the euro collapses, Merkel warned, “then Europe and the idea of European union will fail.”
This follows the wonderful speculation about the French threatening to pull out of the Euro as well:
The markets were initially unsettled by news that the French president had threatened to pull France out of the eurozone. The startling threat was made at a Brussels summit of EU leaders last Friday, at which the deal to bail out Greece was agreed, according to a report in El País newspaper quoting Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero.
There are unconfirmed reports that Germany is preparing to reintroduce the Deutsche Mark.
